Social media has also offered the government opportunities to engage more effectively with constituents. The platform has helped inform them of their government activities and invite them to engage and participate actively in government. Other than government/organization accounts, employees and agency executives have also been using private accounts to spread Governmental information and interact with citizens on Governmental matters. The use of social media by governmental persona has raised numerous questions about the right approach to using the platform with individuals sharing their beliefs and opinions. It raised some ethical issues among those, which language is appropriate to use on those platforms.
While presenting the benefits of using social media for effective communication, this interactive presentation also emphasized what could be deemed inappropriate. It will discuss the improper use of social media, highlighting different issues that could be labeled ethical that we may experience while using social media for government-related activities and how they fit and relates to the theories that we have discussed in class. It will also discuss the correct behaviors to display on social media when using an official account or personal account for public use. It will show how we can use technology to improve public services and effectively manage ethics in the workplace using it as a tool.
